12 Fashion Brands Like Urban Outfitters

by Hailey
March 14, 2021

Clothings on a rack in a window for article Brands Like Urban Outfitters

Urban Outfitters. We all know them and love them! They’re an iconic brand, especially amongst the Gen Z and Millennial generation. I’ve been an avid shopper of Urban Outfitters for years and have especially gravitated towards their exclusive line, Out From Under, which sells my favorite top the Hailey Bra (maybe I’m a little biased because of the name).

However, I know there are some reasons why you may be looking for brands like Urban Outfitters. Maybe you’re looking for a more affordable shopping experience (Urban Outfitters can be pricey sometimes) or maybe you’re simply looking for some similar styles to explore. No matter you’re reasoning, I have some awesome brands like Urban Outfitters listed here. I’ve also included some of my favorite styles from each brand so check them out and let me know what you think in the comments below!

What aesthetic Is Urban Outfitters?

Real quick I want to briefly talk about Urban Outfitters’ aesthetic.

In my opinion, Urban Outfitters offers a mix of boho, retro, and hipster (in a non cringe way) styles. It’s definitely not a super preppy or super-serious brand. I’d consider Urban Outfitters a brand that primarily offers styles for everyday occasions whether you’re looking to dress up or down or in between.

I do believe that no matter your individual style, you can find something at Urban Outfitters even if you don’t gravitate towards any of the styles I mentioned. But, as I said above, sometimes you just want to branch out for whatever reason! I totally get it.

What stores are similar to Urban Outfitters?

Now, let’s get into the awesome places that you can check out if you want to shop for brands like Urban Outfitters. This is such a diverse list, so you’re sure to find the perfect place to shop for you!

MissPap is an online retailer I was recently introduced to. They’re a UK-based brand that was founded in 2013 and has been making headway through the trend-centric side of the fashion industry ever since. The brand’s whole purpose is to “serve the women with style, women who love to feel confident in what they wear, and the women who do things their own way.”

I’m sure you’ve seen MissPap all over your Instagram feeds and if you haven’t, I guarantee you will now! I love MissPap because they sell trendy, statement pieces at an incredibly accessible point. No need to spend an arm and a leg to look cute. Plus, no matter what vibe you’re trying to emulate, whether you want to look cute and flirty or relaxed and badass, MissPap has something for you.

Mango is a brand that was created with a passion for Mediterranean style and culture. You can feel the Mediterranean essence throughout their apparel along with the brand’s appreciation for detail and modern styles. Mango combines contemporary styles and minimalistic fits that you’re sure to love incorporating throughout your wardrobe.

Mango. Is. Perfection. I think if I could only shop here for the rest of my life, I would. They have incredibly chic products with simplistic, classic styles. I seriously cannot get enough of them. Mango is perfect for those people who want to move away from shopping super cheap fast fashion brands and start spending a little bit more on products that are made from high-quality materials that will live in your wardrobe for more than a few months.

River Island

Another great UK brand on this list! River Island is well known across the pond with over 350 stores through the UK, Ireland, and throughout Asia. But for their fellow US customers like myself and maybe you, they have an awesome website for you to browse.

River Island is perfect for both casual styles and night-on-the-town looks. Plus, they have such a great selection of boho chic items which you’re probably seeking if you’re reading this article (duh). My favorite thing about River Island is how easy their website is to navigate, plus their prices! They’re seriously so affordable and will not hurt your wallet if you’re looking to buy some new pieces to upgrade your closet.

Uniqlo

A post shared by UNIQLO Global (@uniqlo)

Known for its wide selection of basic styles, Uniqlo is one of my favorite brands in the world. For the quality of these products, you wouldn’t believe the prices. The purpose of Uniqlo is to provide items that are able to be transitioned throughout various wardrobes and seasons, for everyone to wear. That’s why I love Uniqlo. They sell clothes that you can wear for years to come because they never go out of style.

Urban Outfitters has some awesome basics items that I love. As I mentioned, they have my favorite bra/top. So if you’re looking for apparel comparable to Urban’s basic items, then Uniqlo is for you. If there’s one thing I hate about Uniqlo though, it’s their website. It’s so hard to navigate. But if you can get past that, then check out some of my favorite items below.

Amour Vert

A post shared by AMOUR VERT (@amourvert)

Amour Vert is one of my favorite brands, primarily because of its sustainable practices. Although they are slightly more pricey than some of the other brands mentioned in this article, their products are of the highest quality that will last you a lifetime.

Amour Vert are experts at the bohemian vibes I know you’re seeking right now. A majority of their apparel products have unique design elements in their own way so you’re sure to find something that you’ve never owned before. Their products consist of beautifully designed blouses, joggers, dresses, t-shirts, and more. I particularly love the floral prints they incorporate throughout their product selection because they’re so beautiful and classic.

ASOS

When I’m looking for a very specific trend, style or aesthetic I always go to ASOS. The number of clothes that they sell is unbelievable so no matter what you’re on the hunt for, you’re sure to find it here. Plus, they always have amazing sales and deals and their return process is super duper easy.

Another thing I love about ASOS is that they have collection edits you can shop featuring fashion’s latest trends. Plus, if you’re looking for a specific trend or style and you’re not finding a specific collection edit for it, you can simply type your inspiration in the search bar. Sure, you can do this on pretty much any brand’s website but because ASOS has so many products, you can type in something like “floral dress” and countless results will show up. Check out some of my favorite ASOS products below.

Topshop

A post shared by Topshop (@topshop)

Fun fact: Topshop was recently acquired by ASOS! So now they’re a one-stop-shop. Topshop has always been an iconic British brand to shop when you’re looking for fun designs and easy-feel products. They definitely belong at ASOS because they both emulate the same tend-centric vibe. So while you’re looking at ASOS, definitely check out their Topshop selection.

Topshop has some awesome styles that are similar to what you would find at Urban Outfitters. Their prices are fairly comparable, so if you’re simply looking for some other similar styles to shop then Topshop is great for you. Here are some looks that I’m obsessed with right now!

Lulus

A post shared by Lulus.com (@lulus)

I LOVE Lulus. I’ve seen them all over my Instagram feed lately and it’s not hard to see why people love them so much. They have styles that are super cute with an air of sophistication that won’t break the bank. They are self-described as “affordable luxury” which may be a little bit of a stretch, but for the price you pay, the quality is fantastic. For brands like Urban Outfitters, Lulus is a great one to browse for similar items.

My favorite product that Lulus sells is hands down their dresses. They have the cutest flirty styles that are sure to bring out your girly side. But even if that’s not your jam, they have a bunch of other dress options for you. Another thing I love about Lulus is that you can shop by trend so if you’re looking for something that’s super popular right now, their website will lead you in the right direction.

I remember when I was first introduced to & Other Stories and I fell in love. If you’re in your 20’s and you’re looking to step up your wardrobe with some high quality, classic pieces then & Other Stories is for you. I can’t believe this brand was founded only in 2010 because they’re so incredibly successful and have made such a memorable name for themselves. Also, they’re owned by H&M so I’m sure that helped!

& Other Stories designs their collections in Stockholm, Los Angeles, and Paris so you’re sure to get a taste of trends from around the world. Check out some of their cute styles below.

American Eagle

Ahh, American Eagle. Such an OG. They’ve really stepped up their game over the years and I couldn’t be more impressed with their product selection. I’m also a big fan of Aerie! One of my favorite things about American Eagle is all they’ve done over the years to build on the much-needed body positivity narrative. That, combined with their cute trendy styles, is the reason why American Eagle is such an awesome brand to shop.

American Eagle’s styles are fresh and relaxed. Their basics are definitely comparable to Urban Outfitters along with their cute boho-chic styles. I’m also a big fan of their loungewear selection, they’re so cozy! Believe me, you don’t want to sleep on American Eagle.

Madewell

A post shared by Madewell (@madewell)

I would put Madewell, Urban Outfitters, & Other Stories, and Mango all under the same categories of high quality, trendy minimalistic items that are perfect for anyone in their 20’s (or whatever age, this is just how old I am). So if you can’t find something at one, you will be able to at the other. Madewell is one of my faves because they do implement sustainability throughout their business model. Plus, they also always have promotions going on along with a great sale section.

Madewell is known for their denim but they have so many more product categories they absolutely kill it in. Their contemporary styles are unmatched and they have the best selection of wardrobe-essentials. Check out some of my favorite finds from Madewell below.

Abercrombie & Fitch

A post shared by Abercrombie & Fitch (@abercrombie)

Last but certainly not least, we have Abercrombie & Fitch. Fun fact: I’ve actually worked with Abercrombie at my current job! They’re an amazing company and team and I truly admire how they’ve grown over the years.

I’m sure you remember Abercrombie & Fitch as the logo-centric, preppy brand from the mid-2000s. I definitely remember their clothes plastered over everyone at my high school. I never wore Abercrombie in high school (I had many phases, but none of them were preppy) but now I absolutely adore Abercrombie! They have really stepped up their game and I’m beyond impressed at the selection they offer. I’m telling you, don’t sleep on Abercrombie. They have a ton of cute stuff similar to Urban Outfitters. Here are some of my favorite finds.

Hey! It’s been a minute. Here’s a quick update Hey! It’s been a minute. Here’s a quick update. (Plus, new article all about @fabfitfun on the blog! Link in bio) 🦋 I’ve been MIA because the past few weeks because I have been super busy with work, my blog and getting ready to return to NYC after a long break home to spend time with family. I love Instagram, but during that time I saw that a majority of my blog traffic came from Google, not IG which is what I’ve been trying to accomplish for a few months now. I still appreciate IG blog traffic and will continue to post about it but it kinda felt like a relief knowing that I don’t need to rely on IG for my blog traffic anymore, hence why I took a little break from posting on top of the reasons I mentioned above. Fun fact: You shouldn’t ever rely on Instagram as your main source of traffic for your business because one day it could be be gone (shoutout to MySpace, RIP). Basically what I’m trying to say is that, I’ve been busy and Instagram is a lot of work and pressure. I’m going to keep posting but maybe not as much as before. Who knows, I’m taking this thing called life day by day. If you made it this far, thanks for reading✨
