5 Best Drugstore Hairsprays That Actually Work

Growing up with a hairstylist mama, you could say I know a thing or two about hairspray. She always purchased the best of the best hairspray and I was always grateful to use high-quality, professional products. But when I moved to NYC and no longer had her access to my favorite hairsprays, (and I obviously couldn’t fly with hairspray) I scoured the drugstores to try and find some of the best drugstore hairsprays.
I’ve narrowed down my list of the 5 best drugstore hairsprays below. I’ve tried many, but these are the highest quality, yet affordable hairsprays out there. Plus, you can purchase these best drugstore hairsprays on Amazon, Ulta, or your local drugstores such as CVS or Walgreens.

The 5 Best Drugstore Hairsprays
OGX Argan Oil Of Morocco Multi-Benefit Hairspray
OGX Argan Oil Of Morocco Multi-Benefit Hairspray holds down flyaways while also keeping any hairstyle in place. It’s a light texture formula and protects from heat so you don’t have to worry about any heat damage when styling your hair.
This is a hairspray you use before your style your hair (which is why it has heat protectant properties). It will help maintain your hair throughout the day without any crunchiness and while also promoting a soft, shiny feel. Plus, it smells amazing.
You can shop OGX Argan Oil Hairspray on Amazon ($7.99) or Ulta ($8.99).
John Frieda Frizz Ease Moisture Barrier Firm Hold Hairspray
John Frieda is known for their affordable haircare products and their Frizz Ease Moisture Barrier Firm Hold Hairspray is definitely a fan favorite. This hairspray’s main function is anti-humidity which keeps moisture out to help prevent frizz.
This hairspray won’t make your hair feel heavy or crunchy. It holds your hairstyle without compromising the potential for humidity to mess with your hair. This is hands down one of the best drugstore hairsprays for people who live in humid environments!
You can buy John Frieda Frizz Ease Hairspray on Amazon ($7.47) or Ulta ($8.99).
Not Your Mother’s She’s A Tease Hairspray
I love Not Your Mother’s products. Not only is their packaging adorable, but their products are such high quality for the price. I’m a big fan of their She’s A Tease Hairspray which is lightweight and has a stronghold.
If you’re sensitive to smells, I would advise against buying this product. It performs incredibly well for the price, but the “apple blossom & bamboo” smell will not be great for people who are sensitive to scents.
You can buy Not Your Mother’s She’s A Tease Hairspray on Amazon ($13.98 for a 2 pack) or Ulta ($6.99).
L’Oreal Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold UV Hairspray
The L’Oreal Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold UV Hairspray has been a go-to hairspray for many people for years! It provides a long-lasting hold and makes your hair appear and feel more voluminous. It’s also not stiff or sticky. I do recommend purchasing the unscented version as the scented version is super strong.
The only thing I hate about this product is the packaging design. The function of the packaging works great but the image and gold tones are so tacky, I hate it. It looks like they designed it in the ’70s and never thought to revamp it. Okay, I’ll stop being a hater now! The hairspray is great, I just hate how it looks.
You can buy L’Oreal Extra Strong Hairspray on Amazon ($11.99) or Ulta ($14.99).
Big Sexy Hair Spray & Play Volumizing Hairspray
Last but not least, we have Big Sexy Hair Spray & Play Volumizing Hairspray. I remember seeing this in my mom’s bathroom when I was younger so you know it’s the real deal. This is the priciest hairspray on this list, but it’s definitely worth it.
This hairspray provides a medium to high hold, while also protecting against humidity and heat. It also gives a shiny finish. Plus, the packaging is recyclable which is awesome and the formula is also cruelty-free.
You can buy Big Sexy Hair Spray on Amazon ($19.95) or Ulta ($19.95).
What Is The Best Smelling Drugstore Hairspray?
The best smelling drugstore hairspray on this list is theOGX Argan Oil Of Morocco Multi-Benefit Hairspray. It contains argan oil, which always smells so good no matter the product. It makes your hair smell clean and fresh without being too overwhelming. So if the scent is a big deal to you and you want something good, I highly recommend this hairspray.
What Is The Cheapest Hairspray?
Out of all the brands mentioned above, the Not Your Mother’s She’s A Tease Hairspray is the cheapest when purchased on Ulta ($6.99). The two-pack sold on Amazon also equals the same price when purchased together ($6.99 each).
This is a case where a cheaper product is just as good as a more expensive one. All of the hairspray listed above are of great quality. The amount you pay is solely up to what you’re comfortable with, but I promise if you choose the cheapest or most expensive, you’ll end up with one of the best drugstore hairsprays no matter what.
What Is The Strongest Holding Hairspray?
If you’re looking for a hairspray with a strong hold, I highly recommend theL’Oreal Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold UV Hairspray. It creates a strong hold without an overly stiff or crunchy feeling. This is an OG hairspray that has been trusted by professionals for years, so I highly recommend it.
