My Go-To Winery Style Secret
Before we get into it, I want to tell you about my winery-style secret. I’m a sucker for a standout outfit but I’m generally not willing to pay for something I likely won’t wear again. That’s why I love Nuuly! Nuuly is a clothing rental service that I’ve been using for years. For $88 you get 6 items which is much less expensive, and sustainable, than buying new clothes.
Nuuly has a ton of dresses, skirts, and much more from many of the brands I mentioned above. Don’t forget to also check out my Nuuly review. And if you want $10 off your first month, click here!
What Dress to Wear to a Winery?
A dress is a classic option for a winery. Especially if the weather is warm, it’s the perfect piece for a comfortable yet stylish choice. Whether you’re going for a romantic vineyard date or a casual afternoon tasting, there are a few dress options you can look to for what to wear to a winery.
Colorful Sundress
What better option for visiting a winery on a sunny day than a color sundress? A sundress is a general term, but I view it as a flowy dress with lightweight material. Lightweight fabric and a looser fit allow for airflow which will help keep you cool and comfortable.
A sundress can also be dressed up or down depending on the reason for visiting a winery. You can pair your sundress with some cute platform sandals and some gold jewelry to complete the look. Or, if you’re opting for a more casual vibe, you can dress it down with some white sneakers. A sundress is the perfect stylish and feminine choice for the picturesque setting of a winery.
Floral Dress
A floral dress perfectly captures the romantic and whimsical aura of a winery. Anything floral ties well with lush greenery and picturesque views. This is a comfortable and practical option because it’s easy to move in and it’s versatile.
A floral boho dress never goes out of style and can be accessorized with a number of neutral options, which I’ll touch on a little bit later in the article. If you’re looking for something that never goes out of style (or at least, hasn’t in many many years) grab a cute floral dress for the perfect winery dress.
Neutral Linen Dress
If you’re looking to lean more into a neutral tone for your winery visit, you can’t go wrong with a neutral linen dress. This is one of my favorite wardrobe pieces as it’s the best canvas to elevate your style. A neutral linen dress is elegant and sophisticated, creating a timeless and classic look for any winery.
Linen is one of the best fabrics for warmer weather because it’s breathable. It adds an effortless vibe to any look and would make one of the best choices for a dress to wear to a winery.
Can You Wear Jeans to a Winery?
This is a pretty common question and unfortunately, the question isn’t black and white. There’s generally no dress code for most wineries but it is important to consider the atmosphere of the winery you are going to visit.
If you’re unsure if jeans are “acceptable” at the winery, I recommend visiting their Instagram account and checking their tagged photos to see what other people are wearing.
I personally think jeans are fine for most wineries. I would avoid jeans with big rips. I would also pair the jean with an elevated blouse to dress it up a bit. At the end of the day, wearing jeans to a winery is up to your own personal style and preferences. So while there’s no hard and fast rule, you want to do a bit of research to figure it out.
Casual Jeans
As I mentioned, I recommend wearing jeans without rips. I’d keep it elevated and classic with nice structured denim. Some of my favorite places to buy jeans are Levi’s and Everlane. Check out my article here about my favorite denim brands here as well as my review about Levi’s wedgie jeans here.
Elevated Blouse
This is where you can have a little fun. An elevated blouse can be anything that takes your outfit up a notch. A blouse with delicate features such as lace, embroidery, or flowy fabrics adds an elegant touch to an outfit with jeans. The combination of the two is a chich and effortless way to spend a day at a winery.
Can You Wear Sneakers to a Winery?
If you know me, you know I’m a huge fan of sneakers. This, again, depends on the atmosphere of the winery. However, I’d personally be fine with opting for a clean, classic sneaker. If you’re not a sneaker person or if you simply want to elevate your style a bit more, opt for a platform sandal. They’re easy to walk in and give your outfit the classy look you’re seeking.
The one thing you don’t want to wear to a winery is heels. Heels can be difficult to walk in on cobble, depending on the winery, and they can also sink into the ground if you’re doing a tour of the vineyards. I highly advise against wearing heels to a winery.
Stylish Sneakers
When wearing sneakers to a winery, you want to make sure they’re clean. Sorry, leave your 10-year-old Converse at home. I’d also always opt for white sneakers because they go with pretty much anything. If you have a pair at home but they’re looking a little rough, click here to read about how to clean white sneakers.
Platform Sandals
I’m a sucker for some platform sandals. I’m not much of a high-heel person, so when I need to step up my outfit, I always opt for a platform sandal. These are a must-have in any wardrobe and they are perfect to wear to a winery.
What Type of Purse to bring to a Winery?
Because wineries generally require a lot of walking (and drinking) it’s best to wear a hands-free purse, specifically a crossbody. This way you can keep all of your belongings close to your body which makes it comfortable to carry everything you need. This allows you to enjoy the wine-tasting experience fully.
Winery Outfit Accessories
On a warm or sunny day, a sunhat and sunglasses are a must-have for a winery outfit. They’ll both help protect you from the sun while also adding stylish details to your outfit. I personally will always opt for a sunhat when visiting a winery because I feel it fits the vibe so well. Check out some of my favorite sunnies and sunhats below!
What to Wear to a Winery in the Fall?
Most of the items mentioned above apply to a fall winery outfit. What comes into play when the weather is a bit more crisp and chilly is….layers! Opting for a light jacket or a cozy cardigan is a great way to stay warm but still look stylish.
A Jacket/Cardigan
You have a few different options for a light jacket. The first is a classic denim jacket that goes with just about anything unless you don’t want to wear denim on denim. The next is a leather jacket which can turn your feminine style to edgy, which I still find to be appropriate for a winery. The third option is to opt for a shacket! A shacket (shirt jacket) is perfect for transitional weather and can be dressed up or down.
A cozy cardigan is a great versatile option that is not only comfortable but versatile. My favorite types of cardigans are neutral ones but you can always bring a colorful one to wear with your neutral linen dress that I mentioned above. Check out some of my favorites in these categories below!
Final Thoughts
Visiting a winery is always a great time and what you wear can add to that fun! Whether you prefer a casual look or want to dress to impress, you have plenty of options. Remember that it’s all about feeling comfortable and confident, so you can enjoy your time with the wine.
Grab your favorite outfit, put on some comfy shoes, and get ready for a great day at the winery. Cheers!
With love or whatever,
Hailey
